Paint Box small version

I finished the Paint Box small version  and it takes about 8 days to finish .

30 blocks of the same size

cutting takes about 8 hours in 3 days
although I enjoy piecing more.

I can never stop taking pictures from time to time .

I quilted free motions but just not too much because I love the fluffy feeling for baby quilts instead of stiff looks and feelings that ended up in this large quilt.

Flower cushions

I found this great tutorial over here Flowers this is what I needed to make two pillows I love the last fresh looking, so I want to give it a try

It was easy to choose colors , I love the background a lot kind of creamy with tiny scratches of blacks
I cant remember the name of the fabric but 100 percent cotton

I followed the instructions like in the blog.

First I added the 'ground' over the background , then the batting and free motion quilted.

I added the stems , flowers and butterflies

For the flowers I added more batting to make them pop up a bit more.

This is the finishing after closing the back of the cushion, zipper and added some buttons to decorate .

Running stitch quilt

I want to try the  running stitch  for quilting but not in a big project,  so I did this quilt journal 14" square or (Doll quilt) only to practice.

First the small pieces are added together (since I used my every bit of my fabrics ) and  to keep my sewing machine threaded.

When I make a good size, I square it and keep it a side to make a weekend project .

Then I lay it on the middle of  a paper square and round it with background fabric

Now its time to square the square again

Nine patches were enough to make 35 centimeter square top, and because as I already said I would like to try running stitches in a new quilting way.

So what do you think??!!!

Nice pray

It is a great pray,"dua" as we call it in Arabic
I asked a dear friend Samar to translate for me because it is a great words, so It says:

O Allah I seek refuge in you from demise of your blessing, and from the suddenness of your indignation, and from your turning of our well being, and from your malcontent (exasperation)

The whole project came to my mind when a dear friend gave me  scraps and chunk of chiffon and silk fabrics which were of course  too light and delicate to deal with and needed special care.

After a lot of hesitate I realize that colors show only when the background is black even if the colors are yellow , blue or even pink .
I fixed a black fusible interfacing , so the real colors would show and the fabric became getting a  stiffer body and  got easier to work with .

I did some researches over the net and chose the Kufi font (one of Arabic fonts)
the colors vary between browns, dark pinks, blues and green

The back ground chosen after asking an expert eye my DD

What you see in the previous picture is the letters ironed over an invisible interfacing with adhesive both sides.

I fixed the words with a blanket stitch by machine .

Later I found it deserved to be prettier, So I beaded as much as I had suitable colors.

and here some of the words.

Thank you for your basing and sweet comments .

vine fruits

I would like to introduce my ready Vine Tree I did from the book

I shared this idea with three  ladies one of them is Rawya

Starting from the back . I like to reconnect pieces at the back as well as adding my special touches

I used the back to be my binding in the last phase

My sister is one of the ladies joining us in this  project and here I proudly show you her version with different endings .

Flowers, Grapes and pomegranate

This is about my table runner's name (vine fruits)I found the patterns and instructions in this great book

last weeks I added the flowers , Grapes and blueberries using my new  rods done by Rosa, they are great tools which makes an easier life of yours doing the applique.

picture from google showing the rods

Then I added the pomegranate , first  the middle section which contains the pomegranate pieces to the yellow piece
then to the big red part which is the peel, and now one piece i added to the background

As the picture showed I cut the middle of the Vaseline tissues  and kept it as a ring inside to avoid extra stiff parts.

 Here are Grapes upside down.

And today the border is ready , triangles fixed to  a paper foundation

When added to the runner . Tadahhh

Add 4 more squares to the corners.

Now I have to add the patting , backing to be nearer to the final stage .

VINE FRUITS stem and leaves

Today I am going to show you my progress in the Vine Fruits table runner from the book

For stem I chose from the beginning  to fix it with this stitch called Buttonhole .
For the  leaves I was planning to turn the seams under , but by mistakes I ironed the fusible web over all the green fabric!! so I have to change my plan

I cut over the out lines of the leaves , ironed, and with machine zig zag stitches I added  them to the background

I chose the smallest zig zag and the number one as for the stitches size

Here is the stem with leaves comes alive

that was for last week

and here is the stage I am in "Flowers"

This time i turn the seems under and fix them with small hidden stitches.

VINE FRUITS

A new project is going to start with other couple of friends Rawya that I already did a very nice paint box quilt with her last year

Rawya's
mine
with Asma , a new friend full with energy and very helpful , we also welcome other participators as well.

NOW, let me tell you about our new project It's a combination of quilting and Applique table runner took from this book

and its called Vine Fruit .

When you see the pattern you will guess that  Deborah Kemball chose to put all her favorite fruits in one pattern.

I chose most of my fabrics  from my stash , even though Rawya sent me this great site which can help with choosing colors that go along with the backgrounds and each other.

Okay that's all for today,

I never made a whole applique project, but I feel such an enthusiasm to try something new, and different Techniques .

Well, as the plan, we started on 17 of January and we have a week to collect our fabrics , some friends are very new to such art .

I chose mine here and started to learn and read about many tips of appliques.

Assma from "Vine Fruit Group" gave me already a roll of Wonder- Under to work with ....so thank you . and I think I will use more than one method in this project to add 3 dimensions to some parts of the runner.
